Swim Gym

Both of the girls took swimming lessons this summer. Maddie is getting old enough now that she is going to summer camp and friends’ houses without me, and I needed peace of mind that she would be ok around water without me! Anna had never had swimming lessons and didn’t even like to get water in her face when she took a bath, so I knew she would benefit from lessons, too.

Maddie, my little over-achiever, did great from day 1. She spent the two weeks perfecting her American Crawl, her backstroke, and holding her breath longer and longer. She is still working on her dive…bless her heart, she is just so tall that she ends up doing a belly flop every time!

Anna started off week 1 doing ok…by the end of the week, however, she was SCREAMING for the entire 30-minute lesson. All of my friends had told me that the little ones would start off the week screaming, but by then end of the week, they would be fine. Leave it to Anna Katherine to break the mold! I knew I couldn’t spend another week of the screaming…fortunately, I have the best friend in the world! Beth and I gathered up all our kids and headed out to the country club pool. Anna was adamant that she was NOT going under the water, but at one point she accidentally did…oops. When she came back up, Beth (in all her mommy-wisdom) was cheering for her-telling her how great she did. The rest is history…Anna is now swimming underwater independently and LOVING it! She puts on her swimsuit when she first wakes up in the morning, regardless of whether or not we are going to the pool that day!
